UK has a new Junior Chocolate Master!

On 8th July 2017 six super talented young pastry chefs gathered at the UK Chocolate Academy centre in Banbury to showcase their skills and creativity at the sixth edition of the Junior Chocolate Masters. The contestants battled it out in this day long competition during which they had to create a chocolate showpiece (minimum height 75cm), moulded snacking bar and Food on the Go Dessert, all around the competition’s theme: “An English Country Garden”.

The contestants all showed exceptional skill, determination, concentration and nerve throughout the competition and some inspirational interpretations of the English Country Garden theme were seen in all elements.

After an intense day of competition: Gabriella Cugno from The Ritz Hotel London was this year’s winner crowned with the prestigious title of the UK Junior Chocolate Master 2017!

The competition was judged by Yolande Stanley, Sarah Hartnett and Samantha Rain (ex Junior Chocolate Master). Yolande commented: ‘This year saw the focus and standard rise even higher. All candidates were honed like chocolate athletes and the workmanship and innovation, as well as the professional attitude were amazingly advanced. The judges felt honoured to be in their midst.

Gabriella, the winner, produced stunning class and sophistication throughout.  Her skills were exacting and multi-faceted; the centre piece included carving, fine piping and hand painting in coloured cocoa butter. She is a super-talent with such humbleness! Watch and wait....we've not seen the last of her!’

”Year on year the standard of the competition just keeps increasing,” added Victor Griffiths, Cacao Barry Gourmet Account Manager. “All the contestants showed outstanding skill and true professionalism, especially considering the stress they were under. The competition was very close and gave the judges some very hard decisions to make! I would like to congratulate Gabriella and all the other contestants, and I look forward to working with these inspirational talents in the future”

Big congratulations to Gabriella and all the contestants who took part in this competition. We will keep our eyes on all of you and wish you all best in your future careers.
