FOLGE 13 - DIE REISE DES KAKAOS

Cocoa was first consumed by the indigenous people of the Amazon, who collected cocoa pods along the banks of the rivers and brought them to their settlements to eat and to share with their families. They used to eat a cocoa pod the way you would eat a mango or peach. But how did the cocoa tree become domesticated, how was it spread to other continents and how did it become the commercial product we know now?

Eduardo Somarriba, Specialist in the development of agroforestry systems with cacao, explains the journey of cocoa in this key episode of the Cocoa Documentary.
